Globe Theater Toothpick Model of Shakespeare's Globe Theater
For extra credit in 8th Grade, I create a model of the Globe Theater using toothpicks. The original model had degredated pretty badly and was eventually destroyed, but not before re-creating it in 3D.

ADATS For SaleADATS For Sale
Instead of arranging a picture to display these items, I decided to re-create them in 3D. This image was on Ebay and they sold right away. Do you have a product you want me to model for you? Just drop me an email.

Desktop
I was playing around and trying to sculpt a head. One thing led to another

The Backalley
The Backalley has been an on going hobby that has spanned about a year and a half. The Backalley is the name that I had given the control room at my studio in Minneapolis, MN. The Backalley started in the late summer of 1996 when Urban Productions, Common World Productions and Network Productions leased about 3000 square feet of warehouse space in Minneapolis. The space had no walls, but plenty of possibilities. So my business partner Larry 'Wingnut' Wendlandt and myself constructed the walls and built the control room in our designated space. I then set out to duplicate the control room in 3D. Hours turned into days, days turned into weeks, weeks turned into...well you get the picture. Then one day I thought to myself "It's done!" Then I started playing with 3D Studio Max and it started up again. I imported most of the old objects into Max and remapped them. As I worked on this project I found that Max would allow me to be even more meticulous than I was before, so I created individual CDs for the SFX library instead of the old texture map version, I put real knobs and sliders on the Mackie mixer board, I even recreated the lava lamp. With the advanced lighting effects in Max, I lit the room almost excatly as it is in real life. All the shadows that are in the images are the same as in real life. I have learned a great deal about properties and physics, both in the program and in real life by creating this place. Everything is animatable and maybe that will be a project for the future, but in the mean time I think I will take a break from the Backalley and let other's (hopefully) enjoy the images as I do. The programs used to create The Backalley are: Corel Cad, Dream 3D, the scene was assembled in Ray Dream Studio 4 and then imported into 3D Studio Max R2 which rendered the final versions. The textures were created using: Corel Draw 7, Corel Paint 7, Corel Draw 8, Corel Paint 8. There are no pictures in this. Every texture was created by using a drawing program! (With the exception of the image in the video monitor. She's real!)

The Backalley The Backalley
Here is a good look at the whole graphic. Don't be fooled by how clean it looks. I have yet to draw in the mess! :)
Bigger Backalley Bigger Backalley
This huge version of the Backalley really shows the detail. Notice the double image refected off the twin pane glass!
View of the counter top A view looking south
A detailed look from another angle. This is the view I see most when sitting at the computer.
View of the racks A view looking north
Another detailed look behind me. For you audio guys, I bet you can identify most of the gear.
Objects Some Objects
Here's a closer look at some of the objects.
The Mackie The Mixer
This is a mackie 24x8 mixing board. This was one of the first pieces I did. I got out my tape measure and created an electronic duplicate. The original mackie had a texture map for the main board. Recently I added all the knobs and sliders, then lined them up over the texture map. (what a pain!)
The Bookshelf The Bookshelf
Wanna buy any of these models? I'll give ya a good price! I'll even put your picture on one of the books or in the monitor!
Keyboard Keyboard View
I have actually looked at the room from this view. It was pretty uneventful so I stood up.
